The great COVID-19 infodemic: How disinformation networks are radicalizing Canadians
A common refrain of those opposed to vaccines is that immunizations are harmful to people’s health and an infringement on human rights. Any kind of science proving the efficacy of any vaccine is often denied.
In 2021, those health concerns have mutated into a widespread belief among the most staunchly anti-vaccine that if you receive a COVID-19 vaccine dose, you will almost certainly die.
The latter is a baseless conspiracy theory. But tens of thousands of Canadians believe it’s true and have created social media channels to promote it.
In an attempt to find the nucleus of the Canadian misinformation campaign, I spent a month immersed in the online world of anti-vaccine communities across the country.
I joined anti vaccine and anti-mandate groups on Telegram and Facebook, witnessing them transform from meeting places for the unvaccinated to a virtual confluence of hatred and disinformation — where I observed, for instance, calls for medical experts to be hanged and people comparing mass vaccination to genocide.
Alongside organizing countrywide anti-vaccine rallies, tens of thousands of Canadians are sharing fake news stories around rising stillbirth numbers, deaths caused by the COVID-19 vaccine and baseless theories of an impending social credit system that begins with QR codes.
Many of the people in these groups seem to believe all of this, despite a lack of proof.

Okay I will agree that those inherently opposed to vaccines in general are maybe way out there. But there are many who are not anti-vaccine but rather anti-mRNA or other genetic based vaccines. I have received two Moderna shots, not by choice, but by necessity as I needed to travel.
In fact, I wanted to wait for the Medicago Home | Medicago vaccine which is a plant based Virus Like Particle (VLP) vaccine. There is now another non-mRNA vaccine by Novavax New generation of revolutionary vaccines advanced by Novavax which is protein based.
I have put my name in for a 3rd booster but only if it is Medicago or Novavax.
Now some Facts to Chew on
The anti-vaxers and unvaccinated are no longer the problem in my home Province of Ontario. The numbers that I post every day from the Ontario government indicate that in fact the problem is the vaccinated and to a large extent the boosted.
In fact, the vast majority of people testing positive at hospitals are boosted today at 1,722 with fully vaccinated second at 840 and total in some sort of vaccination state at 3,139.
The government stopped including unvaccinated individuals on March 10th as it was becoming embarrassing to show the unvaccinated numbers against the vaccinated when it came to infections.
Demonizing the unvaccinated and anti-vaxers in light of the numbers is frankly disgusting. When people set out to attack those they don’t agree with they should make sure they are on sold ground first.
Now lets get to the ICU situation. Mainstream media has persistently blamed the unvaccinated for overcrowding of our ICUs in this province. Again far more vaccinated people with Covid occupy our ICU beds than unvaccinated. In the chart below one can see for themselves.
At the same time, for the sky is falling group, the ICU is not being overloaded with Covid patients. The numbers continually show that 6.9% of the beds used are Covid while 65.5% of the beds are used by non-Covid patients and 27.6% of the beds are available. Note: the % used are based on numbers from 2022-03-31.
Conclusion
There are many types of vaccines that have been and continue to be critical to the well-being of our society. Are the current mRNA vaccines, being heavily promoted by governments world-wide, in the same category?
The statistics seem to indicate that they are not what they were originally touted to be.
We will know in a few years if the test subjects these vaccines were promoted to help benefit from the vaccines or in fact suffer some sort of medical condition from the use of the mRNA vaccines. One does not know the long term effects of vaccines for years.
In the short term, the numbers indicate that the virus infects us regardless of state of vaccination and seems to be worse the more boosters one gets.
I would not counsel anyone to not receive a vaccine as it is a personal choice but for heavens sake let’s at least look at the numbers before we set out to demonize a segment of our society.
Yes there is an ifodemic but is it those that question what is or those that promote what is mindlessly that are spreading disinformation?
