Are Resolved Cases and Deaths “New Cases”?
“We report COVID-19 cases and their status (active, resolved or death) according to the date those cases or status changes happened. That means case numbers for days in the past are continuously being updated as more information is received.”

It seems that Public Health’s concept of “New Cases” is to include any status change as a “New Case”. While this may somehow be important internally it is hardly a reflection of the real infections that are shown in Active Cases.
For example here is the summary from the Ontario Government for March 20, 2022 which is data reported to them by 6 p.m. the night before:

In the chart provided I reflect the actual numbers from the Ontario Government webpage Status of COVID-19 cases in Ontario by Public Health Unit (PHU) – Datasets – Ontario Data Catalogue . If one looks at the numbers in the dataset located there the government reports Active, Resolved and Deaths that equals a number they call All Cases on a chart on webpage Case numbers, spread and deaths | COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Ontario . No where in the detail do they call the change in All Cases “New Cases”.
Yet the media continues to report the Change in All Cases as “New Cases”.
The province reported 1,680 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, but health officials have warned that number is an underestimate due to testing limitations and backlogs.

A total of 1,680 new cases were also reported on Sunday, however, experts caution that is likely an undercount due to the less stringent testing rules that have been implemented in Ontario.

I could go on with the quotes but it is not necessary. If one were to do their own research they would find that they all sing the same song. Even the comment regarding experts looks eerily similar.
Here is the math from the chart above reflecting the data from the Ontario Government:
All Cases 1,680 = Active Cases 157 + Resolved Cases 1,520 + Deaths 3
Conclusion
When I tried to point out to the Premier’s Office some months ago in a communication, the response I got back was that’s just your opinion when I said deaths and resolved cases are not new cases.
So back to my original question Is a Resolved Case and/or a Death a “New Case”?
Everyone out there is quite smart on their own, if they allow themselves, to think beyond the rhetoric being fed every day from Public Health and the Media.
Maybe someday someone can explain to me how one can clearly see 157 Active Cases for March 20, 2022 yet report 1,680 “New Cases” to the public. Either the majority of those cases considered new were never really Active infections or the public is being misled.
A “New Case” must be attached to an person who is infected with Covid-19. Once that infection is resolved it is no longer an Active Case not a “New Case”. Similarly if an infected person dies that death is not a “New Case” but rather the unfortunate end to an already Active Case.
Stop padding the numbers with meaningless data. If they are going to report “New Cases” then those cases must be original cases attached to an individual not a status change on a database.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
