The Third Dose is Dated and A Fourth Booster May Not be A Good Idea

I was hesitant on getting a third booster, especially the mRNA variety, but went ahead when I was able to receive the non-mRNA Covavax protein based vaccine. My thinking was that by having two different vaccine technologies in my system my body has a better chance of fighting the virus. After all it may confuse the virus since it is seeing two different defenders.

However, a fourth jab is not in the cards for me. That is just an excuse to sell vaccines. Even the WHO is not so sure it is a good thing nor is Israel.

‘No Good Evidence’ That 4th Vaccine Dose Is Beneficial, WHO Says

As the fourth COVID-19 vaccine dose has started to roll out in more countries, doubts remain on whether or not the extra jab would be necessary. Experts are torn, with the World Health Organization still skeptical about its recommendation.

study from Israel published last month reported that even though a fourth dose of the Pfizer vaccine can offer protection against severe COVID-19, it is not enough to last long-term. The team found that the shot protected against serious illness for at least six weeks and against infection for at least four weeks.

Since there is no clear evidence of the efficacy of the fourth dose, the World Health Organization (WHO) has been hesitant to endorse it. WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan even told CNBC “there isn’t any good evidence at this point of time” that the additional booster will be beneficial.

“What we know from immunology is that if you give another booster, you will see a temporary increase in the neutralizing antibodies. But what we’ve also seen is that these neutralizing antibodies will wane quite rapidly,” Swaminathan added.

University of Alabama professor of medicine Paul Goepfert expressed a similar sentiment when he told the outlet, “A fourth dose doesn’t really do much of anything … I’m not sure we need to get out and just jump up and down screaming that everybody needs to get aboard.”

Third COVID-19 Vaccine Dose Protection Only Good For 3 Months?

The third dose of the Pfizer vaccine may provide sufficient protection against omicron and other SARS-CoV-2 variants, but it is not for long term. Research has found that the booster dose is only highly effective for three months.

A new study published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine journal reported how the protection afforded by the third Pfizer vaccine dose deteriorates over time, sparking concerns on what should be the best long-term vaccination strategy amid the ongoing pandemic.

Pfizer Vaccine Durability

For the two doses, Tartof and her colleagues found that the vaccine was 41% effective against hospital admission and 31% against emergency department visits at nine months or longer after the second dose. For the three-dose setup, the effectiveness and durability of the booster was notably high. However, the rate markedly dropped over time.

The researchers said the third Pfizer dose provided strong protection, roughly 85%, against hospitalization due to omicron and other strains. However, this dropped to 55% at three months or longer. Against emergency department admission, the initial figure was 77%. It fell to 53% after three months. Because of this, the team recommended getting additional doses of “current, adapted, or novel COVID-19 vaccines” to stay protected against the subsequent waves of SARS-CoV-2.

Conclusion

Clearly a third dose loses it’s potency after just 3 months so do we keep getting dose after dose of this stuff. Nobody knows the long term effects of these vaccines and they want to just keep pumping them into us.

Does anyone remember the saying “The Definition of Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”.

The WHO is hesitant regarding a 4th dose; so should we.

It is time to recognize that this is not a pandemic any longer. This virus will be with us in some form or another for a long time to come just like colds and the flu.

Maybe an annual covid-19 shot just like the flu would be acceptable if needed but we need a different strategy than that afford us by Public Health for the last two years. No more lock-downs, remove the travel restrictions, open up the country again and let’s get on with life. Each of us can make our own life choices going forward. We have graduated from kindergarten so the nanny’s need to find another job.
