The War Situation in Ukraine

Sound of Silence

As we watch the systematic destruction of citizens of Ukraine and their homeland by the relentless attacks on civilians by Russian troops there is literally silence from other western democracies. I included the song sound of silence in this post as hopefully a slap up the side of the head of our fearful leaders.

For other leaders especially those in Western Europe to again sit on their thumbs, while Putin dismantles Ukraine and destroys not only their people but their beautiful free country, is inhumane and short-sighted.

Context of World War II

Do they not remember just prior to WORLD WAR II Hitler invaded Austria and Czechoslovakia then Poland while other European countries sat on their thumbs hoping Hitler would stop there? Well he didn’t and then the world ended up in a vicious and lengthy war.

Here we go again

If they continue down this path this is the song they will be singing. Are we seeing the prelude to World War III?

Is Putin trying to reassemble the former Soviet Union?

This is a more complex situation that what appears on the surface. Clearly Putin’s actions in Ukraine demonstrates that he considers Russia still a Communist country and he abhors the thought that countries like Ukraine might want to be democratic. Does he feel so many democratic countries bordering Russia might encourage his own people to want the same?

Conclusion

There is no doubt Ukraine will pay the price for wanting to be democratic and a part of NATO. The Russian military will deliver untold misery to the Ukrainian people. In the end though, he will find that you cannot pummel people into wanting Russian dominance and control.

Yes truly the Sound of Silence for these toothless economic giants in the west. By acceding to Putin in Ukraine what is the message to the other countries in Eastern Europe that decided to be democratic and part of NATO. Is it we will protect your decision only if it doesn’t endanger our own security?

We either believe strongly in democracy or we don’t. One must always stand up against the bully.
